After conducting a visitation of EDU’s Helios teaching hospital Berlin-Buch for a full day in June 2019, the Federal Ministry of Health invited the leadership of EDU for a follow-up meeting at the ministry.

EDU’s Founding Dean of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Med. Andreas Hoeft, Founding Rector Dr. Jürgen Laartz and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Med. Patrick Bold led the discussions on the Ministry’s premises in Bonn and Berlin. The conversation covered EDU’s development as an Institution of Higher Education with a focus on its medical school.

As such, the talks centered on:

1) EDU’s capabilities to operate at full capacity during the pandemic, when countless universities and academic institutions were forced to disrupt their operation and have yet to find a new normal;

2) EDU’s online assessment procedures, which leverage proctoring technologies to ensure exams can be taken online in a safe and secure manner, with confidence in the exam’s validity;

3) The positive impact the EDU model could bring towards strengthening medical capacities in rural structures.

EDU is fully committed to further developing its innovator role and methods to the benefit of all parties and to continuing the open discussions with German authorities, institutions, and universities pertaining to its academic programs as well as its online and offline structures.

Another follow-up discussion with the Federal Ministry of Health was already agreed upon.
